How to Connect to a TNFS Server via FujiNet

The TNFS (Trivial Network File System) protocol allows your Atari to treat a remote server like a giant, infinite disk drive. Follow these steps to get connected.

1. Boot to the FujiNet Config Screen

  • Turn on your Atari. By default, the FujiNet will boot into its CONFIG environment (the list of slots and servers).
  • Ensure your FujiNet is connected to your local Wi-Fi (it should show an IP address at the top of the screen).

2. Access the Host List

  • Press [N] on your keyboard to bring up the New Host entry field.
  • Alternatively, use the arrow keys to highlight an empty slot in the “Hosts” list and press [Return].

3. Enter the Server Address

  • Type in the server address. For our community server, you would type:tnfs.atariaddict.com
  • Press [Return]. FujiNet will now reach out across the internet to “handshake” with the server.

4. Mount a Disk Image (.ATR)

  • Once connected, the screen will refresh to show the File Browser for that server.
  • Use the Arrow Keys to navigate through the folders (e.g., Games, Utilities, Demos).
  • Highlight the disk image (.atr file) you want to use.
  • Press [1] to mount it to Drive 1 (D1:), [2] for Drive 2, and so on.
    • Tip: A small “1” will appear next to the filename once it is mounted.

5. Boot the Image

  • Once your disks are mounted, press [Option] (or the designated “Boot” key on your specific FujiNet version) to restart the Atari and boot from the virtual disk you just selected.
  • Your Atari will now act exactly as if you had inserted a physical floppy disk into a 1050 drive!

Troubleshooting Tips for Your Users:

  • “Host Not Found”: Double-check your Wi-Fi connection or ensure the server address is spelled correctly.
  • Slow Loading: TNFS speed is limited by the Atari’s SIO (Serial I/O) bus. It’s faster than a real disk drive, but still takes a moment!
